Liu Xipu MD, PhD, Co-founder and Medical Director

Liu Xipu graduated in medicine from Qingdao University Medical School in 1984, He then finished a residency training and Ph.D. joint program in Peking Union Medial College Hospital (PUMCH) where he was awarded a PhD in 1990. He received his post doctoral training at the Hahnemann University in Philadelphia in 1992 and was appointed as research assistant professor from 1993 at the same university.

In 1998 he returned to Beijing as Professor of Ophthalmology at PUMCH.  He worked as joint professor at Tromso University School of Medicine from 2001 to 2006. He left PUMCH in 2003 becoming the Chairman of the Board at Sekwa Health Development Group. In 2005 he was awarded Professor of Ophthalmology and Chairman  of the Institute of  Ophthalmology and Vision Science, Tsinghua University Medical Center.


Liu Ningpu MD, PhD, Co-founder

Liu Ningpu graduated at Shandong University School of Medicine.  He received a PhD in medical science at the Beijing University School of Medicine in 1991 and subsequently Postdoctoral position at Oxford University and Duke University School of Medicine where he became an Assistant Professor  in 1995.  Since 2001 he has been Professor of Ophthalmology  Beijing Capital Medical University and medical director for Retinal Eye Services at Eye Department of Thongren Hospital.  His group have over 30 international publications relating to diseases of the posterior eye segment and to genetic dispositions of Chinese populations, diabetic retinopathy  and macular disease.

Torkel Snellingen MD MPH, DCEH (Lon)

Foreign Expert and Director of Clinical Epidemiology 

Torkel Snellingen is a graduate from medical schools of Universities  of Grenoble, France and Oslo, Norway. He has postgraduate degrees from University of London (Diploma of International Eye Health) and University of Tromsø (UiTø), Norway (Masters of Public Health  and PhD).  From 1990 he was research fellow at the Institute of Clinical and Community Medicine and Principal Investigator of the South Asian Cataract Management Study, a large Regional Study on the management of mass cataract surgery in South Asia (India, Nepal and Bangladesh) with financing from UiTø,  the Norwegian University Council (NUFU),  World Health Organization and Royal Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.   UiTø and Associate Professor at the Institutes of Clinical Medicine from 2000 to 2007.  Since 2007 Foreign Expert responsible for Research and International Relations at the Sekwa Institute of Medicine.


Rolf Lund, Ed.D(edu.psych), M.Sc. (optom)

Dr. Rolf Lund is currently the Senior Researcher at the Eikholt National Resource Center for Vision and Hearing Rehabilitation of Norway (Helen Kellers vei 3, 3032 Drammen, Norway).

Dr. Rolf Lund is pioneered in low vision rehabilitation in northern Europe. He started the low vision rehabilitation service in Norway since 1974. As the first professor and director and for over 10 years in the position in low vision rehabilitation in Oslo University, Dr. Rolf Lund was responsible for the training of low vision specialists at the University of Oslo and later a member of the advisory board for research at Norwegian Blind Association. It was him who initiated and promoted the establishment of the national low vision service system in Norway. His book, The CCTV Book: Habilitation and Rehabilitation with Closed Circuit Television Systems, co-authored by Gale R. Watson (She is now the National Director of Low Vision services for all VA hospitals in USA), has been a popular classical book in the field of low vision rehabilitation.

Rolf Lund has expended his concept and service to Sweden, Denmark, Spain, and lately China. The low vision rehabilitation service in Norway has now well been accepted worldwide as the most successful model in this area.

Dr. Lund also experienced in helping others to establish low vision service facilities. He was the founder of the well know company, ProVista Innovation, which for years the leading specialist institute in low vision rehabilitation in Norway. ProVista Innovation is able to deliver everything from knowledge to products that are needed to establish a full scale Low Vision Clinic. ProVista Innovation also provides the training of the professionals so they can do assessment of patients with low vision and all the equipment needed for such a practice.

Together with highly respected professionals in medical eye care from China, Dr. Lund has worked for years with Beijing Disabled Persons Federation and China Disabled Persons Federation, for helping China in training and education of the Chinese professional in vision rehabilitation.

Dr. Lund represent the center of excellence of vision rehabilitation, the Eikholt National Resource Center for Vision and Hearing Rehabilitation of Norway . In addition to his own contribution to the Chinese Academic Vision Rehabilitation Society, he, over the last few years, by organizing the resource at the Eikholt National Resource Center, has provided opportunities for several Chinese professionals to be trained in Norwary, among those are now some leading expertise in vision rehabilitation in China.


Akhtar Hussain MD, MPH, PhD

Akhtar Hussain, a native of Bangladesh attended Medical School in Dhaka and subsequently Masters of Public Health at the University of Tromsø and PhD at University of Bergen in Norway.  Prof. Hussain is Professor and Chair of International Health at the Institute of Health and Society, University of Oslo and Co-founder the EU-funded GIFTS project, a large multicountry program with focus on genomic and lifestyle predictors of fetal outcomes relevant to diabetes and obesity and their relevance to prevention strategies in South Asian peoples worldwide. Since 2013 he has been on the Board of Directors and Vice President of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF).


RONALD P. DANIS, MD

Ronald Danis, MD is a retina specialist. Dr. Danis has worked as Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences and Director of the Reading Center at Dept Ophthalmology and Visual Science University of Wisconsin-Madison and Managing Partner of EyeKor LLC, Madison, WI.

Nam Han Cho, MD

Dr Nam Han Cho, president of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and professor of Preventive Medicine at the Ajou University School of Medicine in South Korea. In recognition of his outstanding scientific achievements in epidemiology through large and prospective cohort studies regarding the epidemiology of diabetes complications and also of prevention of diabetes in Korea, he has received The Chivalic Royal order with Mahasena Grade (Grand Officer) Insignia from the King of Kingdom of Cambodia, the health outstanding scientific award, and the National health service award from the minister of health of Korean.
